Math: We took a quiz today  and solved another plotting worksheet. (p. 187/188) We also had one set of math boxes p. 207.

Language Arts:
We completed Common Core Ready book pages 206-207
READ!!

Science: Read Chapter 5, Lesson 4.

Test will be next Tuesday, April 8 AT THE EARLIEST!!! WE KEEP HAVING INTERRUPTIONS!
SCIENCE CST TESTING WILL BE ON MAY 7TH AND 8TH-COVERING ALL 4TH AND 5TH GRADE SCIENCE.

Other:

2. The kids are fired up to participate in the Apex Fun Run (the fundraiser that MKS is doing this year in lieu of a silent auction). Please have the students sign in at apexfunrun.com with their code on their bright orange lanyards.  This jog-a-thon will take place on Friday, April 10th. Parents and friends can either pledge a flat/simple donation or pledge an amount per lap! Whatever works best for your family. :)

Math:
1.  We continued with plotting and creating graphs.  We finished worksheet pages 138, 140, and 189.  Make sure you know how to label a graph of x and y coordinates. Remember TIME IS ALWAYS ON THE X-AXIS.!!!!

2. Get two quizzes signed by a parent.

Language Arts:
1. We are continuing to learn about supporting arguments with evidence and finding authors' evidence in the text. We finished Ready Common Core book pages 203-205.
2. We worked on punctuating commas in a series.  I like to read in the morning, the evening, or mid-day.  We completed ready Common Core pages 273-274.
3. Get your Common Core pages 201-202 signed by a parent.

Science:
We read pages 254-259.  I'm collecting answers from page 259 tomorrow. Remember that questions must also be written out.

Other:
1. Colonial Day is on Friday. Come to school in costume. PARENTS, please come help. We NEED YOU!

2. Picture Day is Wednesday.

3. In PE, they are doing the mile run test tomorrow. BRING WATER AND  WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES!

4. IGNITE DANCE REHEARSAL = THURSDAY, APRIL 9 AT ALEX THEATER IN GLENDALE, PERFORMANCE = FRIDAY, APRIL 10 AT ALEX THEATER.

Math:
We are in the home stretch before the state testing. We will begin testing at the end of April. We are heading into measurement conversion unit, a unit on volume. Then, it's time for testing.

Today we completed quizzes on adding/subtracting fractions and the relative product of multiplying fractions. I'll send these home for a parent signature on Monday.

We also completed Lesson 7 worksheet on place value, p. 13.

English Language Arts:
We reviewed our work on finding information from multiple sources and review our grammar concepts from the week (keeping verb tenses consistent).

Science:
We read chapter 5, lesson 2 aloud.  Test will be on Monday, April 6.
The state science testing will be on Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8th. This test covers 4th and 5th grade science content standards. Remember the 4th grade book is available online through the Keppel Website or google search "Road to 900".


Other:

Math:
Great job today plotting points and creating sailboats!  We completed MJ pages 296-299.

Language Arts:
We completed the unit on finding details from multiple sources. We also learned about keep the tense consistent while writing. We finished Common Core Ready pages 199-202 & 269-270

Science:
Chapter 5 test will be on Monday, April 6.  Please be reading and studying your notes-this chapter is dense with airy content (wink-wink).

Other:
Colonial Day next Friday, April 3.  Come to school in costume. Thanks to the families who have already sent in a can for the drum project. If you still need to buy one, please send in a 12 oz. can for this project (coffee/nuts/cookies) are common products sold in this size.

TOMORROW IS LIBRARY DAY! WAHOOOOOOOO! PLEASE BRING YOUR BOOKS BACK!

We finished analyzing the relationship between coordinates Common Core Science: 179-183

ELA:
We finished Common Core Ready pages 196-198 on finding information from multiple sources and verb tense practice on page 268.

Science:

Math:
1.We covered the relationship (math operation) between ordered pairs.  Common core REady book pages 176-179.  Make sure that information for question 12 is graphed and tabled!!!

2. Get parent signatures on two quizzes.

Language Arts:
l. We began working on argumentative writing with citing our sources.
2. We worked on forming the past, present, and future perfect tense.

SCience: Read (reread) chapter 5, lesson 1 by tomorrow!

Other:
Colonial day is fast approaching. Your child should come to school in COSTUME on Friday, April 3.
Be sure to send in a can for the drum making. Yay..Pa rumpa pum pum!

Math:  We completed the district benchmark today for all content through the second trimester.
Tomorrow is Cougar Pride assembly.

Language Arts: We worked on interjections today. We finished 63-66 in the Being A Writer skills workbook today.

Science:  We did Dance, Dance, Evolution today for modeling scientific processes through dance.
Chapter 4 Science Test tomorrow.

Other:
Report card envelopes, Thursday Folders, and Behavior cards all need a parent signature due by tomorrow.

Don't forget to type every night the Smarter Balanced tests are coming soon!  Read your favorite books and home.

Spring Break is next week. Students are also off on Monday,  3/23.

Fire Test is tomorrow.

Math:
Today students continued to learn about scientific notation and reviewed expanded notation. Math journal pages and two worksheets were completed. Three others need a parent signature.  Tomorrow is Keppel Art day. Thursday is a major district benchmark covering ALL material taught this year. I suggest students study their notes.

Language Arts:
Students completed common core ready book pages 88-92 on summarizing literary texts. Do you all remember "Somebody who lived wanted but so..." for summarizing? Isn't that much easier than the crazy graph in the common core book?

History:
Chapter 9, Lesson 1 was covered by a substitute today.

Other:
1. Arts day is tomorrow, Yay!!!
2. Report cards are sent home on Thursday for the second trimester.
3. AR Quiz results will be sent home with report cards.
4. Many of you still need a can for colonial day drum.
5.Don't forget you need to COME TO SCHOOL in COSTUME ON APRIL 3.  All the fifth grade teachers and most parents dress up too-it's super fun!
6.  Parents and students can check out the upcoming state tests at smarterbalanced.org.  For fun, trying taking the high school level tests...oooh la la...they are something else!!
7. Finally, I was out with a family emergency today. I expect to be back tomorrow. :)

Math:
We took a math quiz and we reviewed converting between whole numbers and mixed numbers. We completed worksheets  p. 95-the middle column only and p. 97-ALL

Language Arts:
We completed a spelling test and a vocabulary/comprehension test.

Science:
We did the chapter review and chapter test. Your children have ALL the correct answers for these questions to use them as study tools. :)


Other:
All students need a can with a plastic lid for colonial day. Ask your child about it.
Consider attending Founder's Day! It will be a fantastic evening of dining and awards and, and, and...the flyer was in your Thursday folders. Wahoo!

Report cards are coming home for the second trimester next Thursday, March 12.
Spring Break will be the following week- March 16-20.

Daylight savings time change this weekend!!! SPrinG ForWarD one hour! We'll all be tired together on Monday...

Math: We worked on writing expressions for algebra problems. We completed Common core books page 170-173

Language Arts:
We reviewed antecedents & their pronouns.  We reviewed uses of water found in "A Drop of Water" and the poems following the story.

Science:
We read chapter 4, lesson 4. Make sure you know all the vocabulary for that lesson.
Chapter 4 Test = next Friday, March 13...duh, duh, duuuuuuuuh!

Other:
Bring a can with a plastic lid for colonial day.
Read.

Math:  Ask your child to show you how she/he solves complicated algebraic equations such as on worksheet page 1. We did odds only and we already completed numbers 11, 15, & 17 in class. Wahooo!

Language Arts: We wrote cause and effect sentences using our "A Drop of Water" story. Remember story test on Friday, along with spelling and vocabulary.

Science: We finished Chapter 4, Lesson 4 in science today.  Make sure you reread the chapter and study your notes. Test = Next Thursday.

Other:

Toll Parent Orientation is tomorrow night: 6-7pm in their auditorium. You can learn about their classes, programs, and activities. PARENTS ONLY

Math:
We reviewed order of operations today. We practiced on MJ p. 222-223.
We took multiplication and division of decimals quizzes.

Language Arts:
We reviewed cause and effect in informational text in our "A Drop of Water".  We practiced this skill in our Practice books p. 80-81.

Science:
We used the chromebooks on the website: "Road to 900" to study Science, Chapter 4, Lesson 3.

Math:
1.We worked on order of operations/identifying algebraic equations. MJ 218-221

2. Get a parent signature on your modeling of fractional division equations.

3. Unit 8 math test was handed back. Corrections and parent signature due Friday. Remember students need to get a parent note signed acknowledging that student  had a chance to do corrections, if student chooses not to do corrections

Language Arts:
1. Reread "A Drop of Water"
2. Study spelling words and vocabulary words. Remember they're on spellingcity.com

Other:
We had art and improv today! What fun!

TWO FORMS NEED TO BE RETURNED BY TOMORROW: TOLL ELECTIVE AND IGNITE DANCE.  Parents, we have been working on the Ignite dance routine for 1 hour per week for two months. It is important that your child attend this performance. Please only excuse your child from this performance in the event of a MAJOR family event (like a wedding).
