MARK KEPPEL CLASS OF 2017 SCIENCE CAMP INFORMATION
Hello 5th Grade Parents!
Most of you should have already heard by now that we’ve decided to bring back the overnight science camp for Mark Keppel students. This is an exciting learning experience open to all 5th grade students. Attendance is optional, but your child won’t want to miss this opportunity. The 5th grade teachers, Ms. Siegal, and Ms. Worley will be attending with the students. We’ve provided answers to some of the questions you may have below.
When is it?
March 28-31, 2017 (this is the week after Spring Break).
Where is it?
Camp Highland http://www.camphighland.net/ in Cherry Valley, CA. We chose Camp Highland because several of us have attended this camp and had a great experience here. Check out the website for information on the curriculum, accommodations, packing instructions, and food.
How will the students get there and back?
Students and teachers will travel there and back by bus.
Can I go too?
No, parents are NOT allowed to attend. There will be absolutely NO exceptions to this.
What if my child doesn’t go?
Students who don’t attend the camp, will remain at Keppel for the regular school days. We will have a substitute teacher available.
What is the cost?
We are anticipating the cost to be approximately $300 per student. This will cover transportation there and back, all meals, and the cost of the teacher/staff chaperones. The exact cost will depend on the number of students attending and whether the 5th grade class raises any money to offset some of the cost. We will keep parents informed about the cost. Money likely will be due around February 17. The 5th grade committee will be offering opportunities for students to raise money to be applied toward their individual camp fees. Visit the 5th grade parent website for information on how to stay informed about these opportunities:
What if I have questions?
Feel free to talk you your child’s teacher, Ms. Siegal, or Ms. Worley if you have concerns. We are all experienced camp goers!!
What do I do next?
Visit this website and tell us if your child plans to attend.
You will receive more information as the date gets closer.

Thank you!
Mark Keppel 5th grade teachers, Ms. Siegal, Ms. Worley, and Pam Drake and Eileen Dube (5th Grade Committee Chairs)
