1. We filled in the sensory details and concrete details for each of our events on our Narrative Graphic Organizers.
2. We reviewed spelling and vocab words for test on Friday-Practice Book page 104 & 108, words are related to "Mulberry Project" story on spellingcity.com

3. Get sentences and spelling tests signed by a parent.

Math:
We reviewed the performance task problems in the RCC book.
Math test tomorrow. Review all things fraction!!!

History:
We finished Chapter 8-test = this Friday.

Other:
Fire Safety Test = this Friday.

Language Arts:
Today we wrote dialogue for out narratives to move the story forward and learn about our character's personalities.

We took our spelling and vocabulary tests too.

Math:
We worked on performance tasks today...the students need to STUDY RCC pages 174 and 175. Be prepared to complete these in class.

These are very similar to the performance tasks on the state testing.

Science:
Students took the Chapter 4 test today.

PE: Students are doing soccer drills.

Other:
Tonight is the Skate-a-thon! Have fun!

Language Arts:
We wrote conflicts, resolutions, and THEN plot events between those two today.
Spelling and vocab test tomorrow: PB pages: 99 & 102.

1. Get vocabulary boxes signed by an adult by tomorrow. Watch your spelling on on the vocabulary words..."gourmet" and "unimaginable" are being spelled incorrectly far too often.

Mathematics:
We worked on modeling with dividing fractions.

1. Complete RCC 166-167


Science:
We worked on reviewing chapter 4. Test tomorrow

Music with Mr. G today :)
We reviewed reading music...1/4, 1/8/, 1/16 notes and rest.

We learned about:
tempo = speed of music
dynamics = volume of music
timbre (sounds like tamber)- sound of instrument (flute sounds different than a drum)
sustainability- how long the sound lasts from the different instruments

Tomorrow is Donut Day.
Tomorrow is Skate-a-thon Day.

Language Arts:

Study your spelling and vocabulary words.

We reviewed subordinating conjunctions and sensory details.

Assignment: Write 10 sentences total:

A.Write 5 sentences using a sub. conjunction at the beginning and 5 sentences with a sub. conjunction in the middle.

B. Use 2 sentences for each of the the 5 senses, use details!


Math: 

Finish RCC p. 157.

Get 2 quizzes signed: dividing fractions and multiplying fractions.

Get 3 homework assignments signed.

History:
We worked on Chapter 8, Lesson 2. Finish reading this lesson at home tonight. Be ready to discuss.
Chapter 8 test in two Mondays!! Monday, February 5.

Science:
Chapter test = this Friday, study your worksheets and reread the chapter.

Other:
Friday is  the Skate-a-thon and Donut Day, fun, fun, fun!

Please donate your out-grown dance shoes to Keppel. I'll give major table points for this. :)

Fire Safety test = Friday 2/3. Optional essay due the same day.

Today we worked on picking a setting: time, place, and weather that will make our narratives more exciting.

Vocabulary map due tomorrow for words for "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street"

Math:
We took quizzes today.

Science: Chapter 4 test is this Friday

History: We began taking notes on the Middle Colonies today.

Other:
Keppel is in need of used dance shoes. Please consider donating your old dance shoes to the office labeled with the correct size.

Mrs. Faieta is running a Scratch coding class for FREE on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:15 in Mrs. Choi's classroom.  There will be a homework club in the same classroom from 2:15-3:15.  See Mrs. Faieta for sign-up forms. :)

Language Arts:
We have  a spelling and vocab test on Friday.  The words are from "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street" in the Practice Book.

We began our unit on narrative writing.

We studied that short works are punctuated with quotation marks and longer works of writing get italicized if they're typed or underlined if they're handwritten.

Math:
Get two p.sigs. 1 reciprocal worksheet, 1 division of fractions "Blob" worksheet

Finish worksheets page 61/62 and 145/146.

Science:
Chapter 4 test = this Friday. STUDY!

Other:
1. Tomorrow is dance-bring your jazz shoes.
2. Spirit day performance will be on Friday, February 17th at 1pm in the Hoover Auditorium.
3. This Friday is the Skate-a-thon and doughnut day. Yay!

We discussed how to be neutral or an ally in a bullying situation for Yellow Ribbon Week. We also discussed how to pull a friend to the side to address issues when they arise instead of confronting in a group situation.

We read "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street".

READ and get your iREADY lessons done.

Get your essays SIGNED BY AN ADULT.

Math:
We worked on dividing with fractions.

Complete 2 worksheets-pages 59/60 & 80.  Do ONLY the word problems on the 59/60 worksheet.


Science:
We read Chapter 4, lesson 3-Freshwater Resources. Complete the 2 worksheets by Monday-these are Mandatory. Make sure you do a good job on the open response question page 82. Do not copy directly from the book. Summarize!!!!

Other:
Doughnut Day is next Friday.

Language Arts:
We reread "A School Story" and discussed fables and folktales.
READ and get some iREADy lessons done.
We previewed next week's vocabulary and spelling words. The words from "NOthing ever Happens on 90th Street" on spellingcity.com

Math:
We derived the algorithm for multiplying fractions. We drew models of dividing fractions. We learned about reciprocals and have two practice worksheets.
Complete worksheets pages 55 and 56/57.

Remember the reciprocal for 4 is 1/4 and the reciprocal for 1/17 is 17.

Science:
We took our quiz today. It is in the Thursday Folder-get an adult signature and return it in the Thursday Folder please.

Other:
Get your behavior card and and Thursday folder signed. Sign the two iREADY mid-year reports in the Thursday Folder and return them in the Thursday Folder.

Tonight is the BJ's fundraiser! Enjoy fun, eat well, and have NO dishes.

Doughnut fundraiser ends tomorrow. Bring in your order forms tomorrow!

Language Arts:
We read the creepy bobble head story! We were looking for evidence of fifth grade level narrative writing: using description to show the reader instead of tell the reader details in the story, using dialogue to move the story forward, evidence of plot twists between the conflict and the resolution.

Get your spelling tests signed by an adult and rewrite misspelled words ten times each-write vocabulary words and definitions ten times each for missed words.

Math:
Finish pages 7-11 in your NEW GEMS book.

Science:
Quiz tomorrow on Chapter 4, lesson 2.

Art:

        3. Organizers will not be responsible for donut dozens not picked up by 3:30 pm ( discount cards will be held...doughnuts will be eaten...)

Dine out night is this Thursday at BJ's in Glendale-no cooking, great food, fifth grade earns money..triple yay!

Get a good night's rest and eat breakfast...you're testing tomorrow.
Get adult signatures on 2 finished worksheets.

We'll go over answers for Chapter 4, lesson 1 and Chapter 4, lesson 2 worksheets tomorrow.

Music:
We had drumming with Mr. G today..."Let's all play together"..."To-day was a good day"...."Let's play drums, let's play drums"!!!



Other:
Field trip next Tuesday to the Reagan Library-bring a sack lunch!

Study for your language arts vocabulary and spelling test tomorrow.
Complete any revisions you need to do for your essay.
Read and do your iREADY lessons.

Math:
1. Get a parent signature on graded work.
2. Complete the workbook through problem number 25! NOT PAGE 25.  You may skip line plots, volume, and writing expressions. Do all other problems.

Science:
2 worksheets for chapter 4, lesson 1 were distributed today. Answers will be given on Friday.

Other:
Several students still need to turn in their t-shirt size preference sheets.

We did more practice with summarizing and paraphrasing today. Complete the essay about kids playing football by tomorrow.

Math:
Complete three review worksheets: ODDS ONLY!!!  PAGES 21/51, 19/20, 124/125

TODAY WE had dance and a fire safety assembly.

Please fill out the t-shirt size form and return it tomorrow.

Some students need to fill out the camp commitment form -10 of you.

Welcome back. Happy 2017!

Language Arts:
1. We learned about paraphrasing today...do you remember the 3 steps? Read, replace, rearrange.
Finish your worksheet.

2. We reviewed our new spelling rules and words. Practice Book page 96.

3. New vocabulary words are on page 92.

Spelling and vocabulary tests are on Thursday.

Mid-year iREADY testing has begun.

Math:
We are doing review pages in the iREADY assessment book to prepare for the mid-year testing.

Complete the worksheet on adding fractions.. LIKE DENOMINATORS..you're welcome ;)


Science:
We began working on chapter 4: Earth's Water.  Very interesting facts...only 1% fresh water, only 22% of that is in liquid form.

Other:
Many students were sent home with progress reports for falling behind on their iREADY lessons. Please sign it and return it. Students may not be able to access the iREADY lessons until the mid-year exam is complete. The latest that would be is this Friday.

FIELD TRIP FORMS WENT HOME TODAY!  YAY! We are going to the Reagan library next Tuesday. Students MUST return the form by this Wednesday!  Please pack a sack lunch for this excursion.

Next Monday is a holiday honoring the life and work of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 16.
