Math:
We took multiplication and division of fractions quizzes today.
We finished worksheet page 88/89-get a parent signature on it.

Language Arts:
We took our spellcabulary test today on the "phone/audi"words.
We attended an assembly on heart health.

Science:
We discussed the circulatory system. Then, we exercised our circulatory system at Ignite Dance.

Science test on Chapter 3 is next Friday, February 6th. Study your worksheets/notes.

Other:
Read, type, iREady.  Have a super weekend...wink, wink. (Which team are you rooting for?)

Math:
 We worked on the idea of multiplication as scaling. This means that if I multiply a given  number by a number greater than one,  my product will be larger than the given number. In contrast, if I multiply a given number by a fraction less than one, my product will be less than the given number.
2. Get parent signature on the in class multiplication of fraction models.


Language Arts:
We did our "My Bite" writing assignment.
Spellcabulary test tomorrow on the the "audi/phone" words.

Science:
We learned about the circulatory system today. Make sure your know your aorta from your capillaries.

Other:
Be sure to read at home EVERYDAY.
Behavior cards, thursday folders, and iREAdy reports need to be signed and returned by tomorrow. I will send home the iREady reports again tomorrow to keep at home.

Math-We are working on area models for multiplying fractions.
Parent sig. required on yesterday's classwork.
Students are required to explain how to model multiplying fractions with two problems to an adult and get a parent signature.

Language Arts:
Required homework- NOTICE in great detail ONE bite of dinner:
Texture, flavor, smell, temperature, taste, how many chews, appearance-we'll write on this tomorrow. :)

Science:
Great job completing yesterday's homework of...breathing. We finished the respiratory system today.

STUDY. Use the worksheets to test yourself! Look at your notes.

Other: Narek's mom is collecting money to do a Valentine's party during lunch on February 13.  Please feel free to ask questions.

We discussed and watched a video about the respiratory system. Reread chapter 3, lesson 3 about the respiratory system.

We worked in the common core book on fractions as an expression of division. Pages 104-109 were done in class. 110 and 111 are available for extra practice.
Get your quiz and classwork from Friday signed by a parent.

Remember the numerator is the DIVIDEND, the denonminator is the DIVISOR!

English Language Arts:
We are working on the audi/phone Latin/Greek roots words.  (spellingcity.com)
Finish typing the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. writing by tomorrow.  You are WELCOME to come in tomorrow morning at 7:30am to print your work. :)

Science:
We began learning about the respiratory system today. (Digestive system study aids were completed today, as well)

Math:
1. We are working on reciprocals (inverting fractions).
2. Sign the multiplying fractions work sheet and the multiplying fractions quiz.

3. Beginning tomorrow, I will NO longer check worksheets for completion. I WILL check worksheet answers and return them for parents to review. I WILL expect parents to sign any work that I have checked.  Any unfinished work is an opportunity to practice the math problems. It is up to the discretion of the parent to assign and check for completion.  Please contact me at mcannon@gusd.net with any questions or concerns. I am happy to discuss this policy with you.

History: We compared and contrasted northern and southern colonies.

English Language Arts:
1.We practiced punctuating quotation marks.  Skills practice book page 81-82 completed.  Make sure that you have at least ten different exchanges between people. (one person could speak five times and the other person could speak five times.)
2. Vocabulary Map due tomorrow.

1. Convert any mixed numbers or whole numbers to improper fractions.
2. Cross simplify and multiply across.
3. Simplify your final answer

Welcome back!

Math:

Today was a big review of fraction concepts covered so far. We practiced converting between improper and mixed numbers, as well as adding and subtracting fractions.  We completed pages 77/79, 84, 102, 112.

Language Arts:

We are finishing the Boston Tea Party article essays. We began to work on the writing assignment on CC page 155. We will have time in class tomorrow to finish this assignment.

History:

We continued our colonial presentations today.


Other:
Thanks to those of you who are bringing in Box Tops!  Wahoo!
