Math:
We continued to review estimating fractions.

Language Arts:
We need to completed through page 153 in the Common Core book.

History:
The colonial presentations keep on going and going and going and going!!!!

Other:
Field trip tomorrow! Bring a sack lunch and wear comfortable shoes.
Get your behavior cards and Thursday Folders SIGNED TONIGHT!

Cougar Pride assembly at 8:30-bus leaves at 9:15am. All parents who are coming to the field trip should just attend the assembly with us in the morning.

1. We reviewed estimating fractions to the nearest 1/2.
2. We reviewed powers of 10 on worksheet 19/20  and adding/subtracting fractions 98/100
3.  We completed through 101.


English Language Arts:
We reviewed the steps for reading closely. Finish reading the 1st Boston Tea Party Article FOUR times.
Vocabulary/spelling test on aqua/hydro words tomorrow.

History:
We worked on our history presentations.

Math:
  More practice with common core book adding and subtracting fractions with word problems. Do you remember the nine steps for word problems...check your notes.

We finished pages 96-99.


Language Arts:
We completed our vocabulary maps and Maniac Magee today...sniff sniff...it was so heartwarming.
Spellcabulary test = Thursday. Due to field trip on Friday.


History:
We continued with our history presentations.

Complete your iReady, typing, and reading for 40 minutes.

Math:
1. We completed common core pages 91-95- the modeling/drawing of fractions problems featuring addition and subtraction.

Remember the LCD determines the units for the drawing!

2. Math test parent signature and corrections will be collected on Wednesday.

Language Arts:
1.We introduced POINT OF VIEW- Point of view addresses: 1-Who is the speaker 2-His/Her opinion

2. Common core pages 144-148 were completed.

3. Get your spellcabulary tests signed by a parent-missed words = 10xs EACH.

4. Get your grade writing assignment from Friday signed (Maniac Magee/Uncle Jed character compare and contrast writing).

History:
Presentations continue...great job, folks. Remember these are colony presentations, not STATE presentations.

Other:
Field trip Friday, pack a sack lunch.
Get your iReady done, complete typing, and read for at least 40 minutes.
Progress reports will be sent home this week.

Math:  We completed the adding and subtracting fractions test. Corrections will be due next Thursday.


Language Arts:
We took our spellcabulary test.
We completed in class essay responses to a character analysis of Maniac Magee and Uncle Jed's methods of helping others.

History:
We had time to work on our group presentations of our Colonial Poem, Play, or Song

Other:
iReady, type as usual.
Please remember, students are expected to take an AR quiz every other week on the book that is being read independently.  This grade affects both the reading effort AND  the  reading comprehension grade on the report card.

Upcoming:
This next Friday, Dec. 19, is our field trip to the Discovery Cube LA (Sylmar, CA-only 17 miles away). Students need a sack lunch!!!!

We practiced adding and subtracting fractions. ODDS ONLY: Pages 72, 105/107; ALL p. 40

Test = Friday: Adding and subtracting all manner of fractions, renaming mixed numbers as improper fractions and vice versa.

Language Arts:
We completed the vocabulary "map" definition and sentence on one side; word and picture on the other side.
We completed CC book pages 135-138 AS A GROUP-all of these pages should be completed!

History:
All history project slides are due by 5pm today. Be sure to share your work with me.

Math practice-getting ready for the quiz tomorrow and test on Friday!

P. 66 complete top chart, but not bottom two rows.
P. 68 Do not complete middle column
P. 113 front and back, do not  complete columns A & C

Language Arts:

1. We are doing the vit/viv/bio word list on spellingcity.com and handed out to you today.  The word/picture/definition/sentence chart is due on Wednesday.

One side has word, its definition, and a sentence that proves you know what the word means.  The other side has a picture to accompany word.

2. We are working IN CLASS ONLY on common core pages 135-138.

3. Get CC book pages 128, 134, and spellcabulary tests signed by a guardian/parent.

HISTORY:
Slides are due tomorrow for your projects, remember to share with each other and to share with me. (can edit please)

Other:
Please complete your iReady lessons (2 math and 2 language arts each week). Some of you are falling way behind on the math.

Math:  Okay, now I trust you...to add and subtract mixed numbers with different denominators.
We completed two worksheets: Test 10-do all the problems and Test 11- you do not have to complete the bottom two rows.

Math test next Friday, 12/12/14 on adding and subtracting all manner of fractions

Language Arts:
We took our geo/terra spellcabulary test.
We completed through page 134 in our Common Core books.
Nothing to sign.

History:
Keep working on your projects/google slides-they're due next Tuesday. :)

Other:
PTA Barnes and Noble night TONIGHT-have fun...and buy a lovely book! Tell them you're with Keppel when you purchase the book and Keppel gets a percentage of the sales. Yay!!

Math: We learned how to add and subtract mixed numbers with different denominators.  Because I love ya, but I don't yet trust ya: We are not doing any independent practice on this yet.  One worksheet, page 133, rows 1-4 only.

English Language Arts:
We practiced discerning compare & contrast text structures from cause & effect text structures.
We read the passage. We read it again looking for clue words. We then decide what type of text structure was used.
Spellcabulary Test on Geo/Terra words tomorrow.

History:
Due Tuesday:
History Project: 3 people
1 Person = Name of Colony, region of Colony, map of Colony, describe founding story/ important people related to colony.

2 Person = Name of country of origin of founders, religion of founders/spiritual beliefs, name and describe Native American tribes. Relationship between colonists and Native Americans. 

3 Person = Describe climate., describe geography, describe crops/industry, tell how these are related
All: Contribute one more important fact or interesting fact about the colony.

Google Docs Project, be sure to share with me!

Math:
We learned how to add and subtract mixed numbers today.
Step 1: Set up the problem vertically and change to improper fractions.
Step 2: Find the LCD and rename fractions.
Step 3: Add or subtract numerators.
Step 4: Simplify or die...

One worksheet front and back with subtracting mixed numbers-we already did the bottom row in class.
One worksheet on subtracting with unlike denominators.

Language Arts:
We compared and contrasted text structures today.  Complete through CC book 128. Follow directions and use complete sentences.

History Project:
Get going in Google Slides if you want with your part.

History Project:
3 people-
1 Person = State/describe: Name of Colony, region of Colony, map of Colony,  founding story/ important people related to colony.
2 Person =  State/describe: Country of origin of founders, religion of founders/spiritual beliefs, Native American tribes. Relationship between colonists and Native Americans.

Math:
We subtracted fractions with unlike denominators.   We completed worksheet pages 125 and 127.
(Remember to slow down and look at the denominators to see if one is a multiple of the other.  If so, you don't need to do the lists in order to find the LCD.)


Language Arts:
We wrote 20 sentences using subordinating conjunctions.  Remember when the sentence starts with a subordinating conjunction, then you need a comma before the independent clause.

We finished the common core book through page 121

Science:
We took the chapter 2 science test.

Other:
Do your iReady, your typing, and your reading-you sooooo smart!
