MATH
We took quizzes and completed three worksheets: pages 25, 29, and 72.

LANGUAGE ARTS
We took our spellcabulary quiz and did a Making Meaning lesson on Star of Fear, Star of Hope.

Science
We read and discussed Chapter 2, Lesson 3.
Make sure you know the definition and function of : guard cells, stoma, stomata, cellular respiration, photosynthesis.

Chapter 2 Test  will be on Tuesday, December 2.  We will review Chapter 2 on Monday December 1st.  I instructed the students to study their notes for 5-10 min/day over the break and then spend longer on Sunday before we return so as to be ready for the test on Tuesday. 

Other:
Keep up your iReady, reading, and typing.  By the time we come back from Thanksgiving break, you should be ready for another AR quiz and completed at least 4 reading lessons & 4 math lessons on iReady.

OPTIONAL: COMPLETE A LIST OF ITEMS THAT YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR, NUMBER IT, TURN IT IN ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 1ST FOR TABLE POINTS!!!

Math:
We learned how to add fractions with unlike denominators today. We finished worksheets pages 110 &111. We reviewed how to convert from mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa on the third worksheet.
Get your project signed by a parent.

Language Arts:
We completed and shared our vocabulary slides to study for the vocabulary/spelling test on Friday. We completed Common Core pages 57-60.

Science:
We read science chapter 2, lesson 2.

Other:
Reading day is tomorrow-wear your APPROPRIATE pajamas and bring your donations tomorrow.
iReady, typing, and reading are mandatory.

Math:
We added fractions with like denominators.  We completed worksheet pages 82 & 95.  Do you know the steps for adding fractions.
1. Set up the problem
2. Add the numerators
3. Keep the same denominators
4. Simplify or die ( divide by the big one/turn it into a mixed number)

LA:
Study your spellcabulary words. "When My Father Was Ten" and "Star of Fear" on spelling city.com
Test on Friday.

Science:
We finished chapter 2, lesson 1 on plants in science.  Review your notes!!!!

Other:
The fifth grade committee reported that we raised $7777.00 on the wreath sales.

The read-a-thon for 1107 is on Thursday!  Wahooooooooooooooo!
iReady competition is on for reading....when you get to 35 lessons-you get a prize.....????

Math:
We converted mixed numbers into improper fractions today.
Steps:
1.Multiply the denominator by the whole number.
2. Add the old numerator to the answer from step 1.
3. Put the answer from step 2 as the new numerator, use the old denominator.

We finished MJ 123-124, one review worksheet for reducing fractions, one worksheet for converting improper into mixed numbers.

Language Arts:
We are comparing and contrasting characters in the Common Core book. We finished through page 57. Do your best job; I'm grading these!

Science:
Plant Power!! We started chapter 2.

Math:
We worked on the District Benchmark Trimester 1 Math Test.  Bring a book to read tomorrow, in case you finish early. :)

LA:
We worked on the 1st Trimester Language Arts Benchmark. Bring a book to read tomorrow, in case you finish early. :)

History:
Chapter 5 test tomorrow. Study your graphic organizers...do you know names and important facts about Powhatan chiefs? Hmm....hint, hint....wink, wink.

Other:
Get Report Card envelope signed and return it tomorrow, get behavior card and Thursday Folder signed and returned by tomorrow.
Read, type, iReady-as per usual.

Math:
1. We renamed fractions today.
2. We finished the "Shelton" worksheets pages 78-79 and a project tracing the fraction shapes.  I'll be in by 7:30am tomorrow if you need further access to the shapes to finish your project.
3. Five of you still owe me the Unit 4 Math tests-Multiplying and Dividing Decimals with corrections-you need to return it with  a note that states that you didn't want to complete corrections with it, if you didn't complete corrections.

Language Arts:
1. We watched the Amelia Earhart video 10 times and took notes. We'll be writing on it tomorrow. :)
2. Get your writing for Nellie Bly signed...I still don't have some students writing turned in. See me if your not sure whether or not you turned it in.
3. Get your spelling/vocabulary test signed by a parent-10s each for each misspelled word.

History:
Test = Friday on Chapter 5  
Review your notes and the chapter review that we started in class today.

Other:
Reading daily is NOT optional.
Type, and do your iReady.

Math: We worked on renaming fractions in the lowest terms:
1. Look at original fraction and think "What is the largest number that I can divide both the numerator and denominator by evenly?"
2. Set up the BIG 1 & divide across the numerator and the denominator.
3. Repeat, if necessary.

We completed 3 worksheets on the renaming fractions in the lowest terms.

Language Arts:
 Read.

History:
Chapter 5 test next Friday.

Other:
REMEMBER ALL WREATH ORDERS ARE DUE BY MONDAY!  EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO SCHOOL, YOU CAN DROP THEM OFF IN THE OFFICE. YAY!

Math:
l. We had basic fraction review today!  We completed two worksheets and page 121 in the Math Journal.


Language Arts:
We completed the first two paragraphs of our essays to answer the following question: Why did Nellie Bly become a stunt reporter?

Paragraph 1 = introduction
Paragraph 2 = body paragraph with one idea about why Bly became a stunt reporter

Tomorrow will be the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs about why she became a stunt reporter.

History:
Complete the notes for chapter 5, lesson 3.

Math-
Multiplication/Division with Decimals test was today. Afterwards, we completed math boxes on MJ p. 109, 111, & 117

Language Arts-
Study your spelling and vocabulary words-test Thursday
We completed the Motive map for Nellie Bly story- 2 details for traits, 2 details for words, 2 details for actions (with page numbers)

History-
We covered Chapter 5, Lesson 2-The French Colonies!  Oui oui, mon cherie!

Other-
Wreath sales were extended until next Monday-you can turn them into the office next Monday even Read as if your life depended upon it-it does!
Type for 20 minutes. Remember, you are expected to be able to type two pages in one sitting by April so that you can complete an online essay for the yearly exams.

1. Review your notes for math test tomorrow. Unit 4 in the Math Journal-decimal multiplication and division!
2. We completed Lesson 27 worksheet.
3. Get two math quizzes signed.

Language Arts:
Study Vocab/Spelling words- test = Thursday!  They're listed on Spellingcity.com under "Nellie Bly Story" for Melissa Cannon
We completed our vocab. map-words & definitions on one side, picture on the other side
Get vocab test  & spelling test signed by a parent.
Misspelled spelling words = 10 times each!

History:
We began chapter 5:  The Northwest Passage


Other:
iReady- 2 math and 2 reading lessons due by next Sunday, type for 20 minutes, read for 40 minutes.
Friday-Tuesday are student holidays.
We began our Improvisation Class today with Mrs. Gilbert. We had great fun participating in improv. games.
