Math...
We were sooooo negative today. We began learning the rules for adding integers....
Like integers, unlike integers.. More on this tomorrow.

1. Finish your math worksheet page 59/60.
2. Get a parent signature on two math quizzes, lessons 3 & 6.

Language Arts:
 We had fun with the vocabulary from "When Washington Crossed the Delaware" and we studied the painting by Emanuel Leutze, reviewing one point perspective, the use of light, foreground and background, and emphasizing the important aspects of the painting.

1. Make sure you get vocab, story test, and Shane's Inspiration Grammar grades signed.


History:
  We learned more about the causes of the American Revolution.  We learned a little bit about our country's "Break-up letter" -The Declaration of Independence.

Other:
Fifth grade promotion = this Friday night at Hoover..see you there.
Last day of school = MINIMUM DAY, 12:30PM DISMISSAL, JUNE 3rd

Math: We reviewed more pan balance problems and line graphs. Students complete MJ 346-349

ELA: Reread "The Man Who Went to the Far Side of the Moon" and the accompanying vocab. Story test and vocab test tomorrow.

Other: Play Day is Friday: rain or shine.  Also, please donate 8oz water bottles to this event, if possible. Donations will be accepted tomorrow at school. Thanks.

Math:
We continued our work on algebra today. We began MJ pages 336-337. This is new and difficult! We will work on this in class. :)
There is extra practice in the Study Link page 225, lesson10-2


Language Arts:
1. Read The Man Who Went to the Far Side of the Moon twice!!! Test = Thursday
2. Get your  "Klondike Kate" test signed by a parent.

History:
We read chapter 11, lesson 3.  Revolution is in the air...

Play Day is Friday! Wahooooooo!
Promotion is next Friday; information about promotion was sent home today on a green flyer.

Math:
1. We began the unit on solving algebra problems...pan balance problems.  We'll continue more on this tomorrow.
2. Get parent signatures on lessons 96, 97, and 98 Quizzes

Language Arts:
We began comparing two space program stories.
2. Get spelling test signed and make corrections-ten times each.

History:
Chapter 11, Lesson 2 was read and Questions on page 375: 1, 2, 3, 4, & 6 are due by tomorrow.

Math:  We reviewed the attributes of 2 dimensional figures.  No work to be signed.

Language Arts:  We reviewed vocabulary, spelling words, and grammar for test tomorrow. Study for "Klondike Kate" story test, vocabulary test, and spelling test. (All are lesson 27 in your Practice Book.)

History: We wrapped up Chapter 10 today. There will be no test on chapter 10.  We're moving on to chapter 11 tomorrow.

Other:
Permission slips for Play Day were sent home today and are due back by tomorrow.  There is no money contribution expected for this event, as the fifth grade committee has been raising money all year :)

Break a leg, Seussical cast and crew! Performance tonight, 7pm at the Hoover auditorium.

Promotion will be at the Hoover auditorium on Friday, May 29th.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We completed practice book page 163 and read the entry about the history of Sourdough.  All Shane's Inspiration paragraphs were turned in, as well as story questions 1, 3, and 4 from the end of "Klondike Kate"

OFFICIAL HOMEWORK:  ATTEND OPEN HOUSE TONIGHT FROM 6:30-7:30!  YAY!!!!!

Instrumental Music Students:  Tomorrow is your pizza party and ALL INSTRUMENTS AND MUSIC MUST BE RETURNED BY TOMORROW (THURSDAY), per Mrs. Jurado.

Seussical = this Thursday and Friday...the Cat in the Hat is where it's at!

Math:  We did fifth grade review worksheets today after reviewing algebraic expressions.

ELA: We had a fabulous guest teachers Miss Hasmik and Mrs. Sondergaard today!!! WAhoo!  Students reread "Klondike Kate" and answered questions 1, 3, & 4.
History: We discussed the seeds of the American Revolution with the appalling decision to give the Native Americans the Ohio River Valley after the French and Indian War.

Other:  Tomorrow is a MINIMUM DAY (12:30 DISMISSAL) due to Open House. Please come see your student's hard work from 6:30-7:30pm.  It should be a lovely evening.

Math: Finally, a regular schedule!!!!  We reviewed and took quizes on algebraic expressions.

ELA:
1. We read "Klondike Kate," reviewed the spelling words, and vocabulary words for this week. There will be a spelling test, a vocabulary test, and a story test on Friday. Students need to reread this story several times to be ready for the test on Friday.
2. Students who have not turned in their Shane's Inspiration paragraphs need to do so tomorrow.

History: We read about the French colonization of North America. We reviewed the ongoing power struggle between England, Spain, and France. We began discussing the seeds of the American Revolution with the French and Indian War.  Students need to ask their parents what would make the parents upset enough with the US in order to wage war against the US?  (This is to show the seriousness of the English colonists waging war against their own country.)

Language Arts: Please come with your two paragraphs on the field trip that were assigned last Monday.....we had state testing all week during our Language Arts time.

A few of you need to turn in your Maturation permission slips.

Please come to enjoy seeing your children's accomplishments this year.  All communication regarding a specific child's progress needs to be done during a private parent/teacher conference.  Thanks for keeping OPEN HOUSE a time for kids to show off their work.

Math:
We began our unit on classifying geometric shapes today.
We will continue our state testing tomorrow.

Language Arts:
We had Miss Jennifer from Shane's Inspiration come and do a post field trip discussion and exercise.  Due by tomorrow: 2 paragraphs. We are writing one paragraph about our thoughts and feelings before our field trip and one paragraph about how our thoughts and feelings changed after our field trip.

Science:  We did three more review/practice CST pages and took a review quiz.  Please continue to use these to dig deeper on questions you missed or feel unsure about.
Science CST = this Thursday and Friday.

History: Posters are due on Wednesday, floats are due next Monday.

Other:  ALL iReady at home lessons are suspended until we take our end of the year tests. The district has frozen student accounts until the student has completed the final iReady assessments for the year.  As a result, I will not expect students to be completing lessons at home until we offer a window for students to test at school.

Please continue to read for pleasure and take AR quizzes at school. :)

History:
We took the chapter 9 test today.

Science:
We used the practice tests for review today. Use them to concentrate on science concepts which need review from your book or online.
Science CST = next Thursday/Friday- May 7 & May 8

Other:
We are having problems with students using their google accounts for non-school uses. Student google accounts which are used for social purposes may be shut down and students may be suspended for using their accounts inappropriately. Students and parents signed electronic use agreements at the beginning of the year pledging to ONLY use electronic devices and accounts for school purposes. I have instructed students to delete any and all documents that are being shared for non-school purposes.

Please ensure that iReady lessons (14 in reading & 14 in math) have been completed from 3/9-5/3.
