Math: Today we took a test on fractions. We worked on one worksheet on multiplying fractions (odds only).  Two "crossword" worksheets.

Language Arts: We began summarizing. Ask your children about "Someone, who lives, wanted, but...because, so....by"


Science: Have chapter 4, lessons 2 and 3 read by Monday.

Other:
iReady, type, read science.

Math:
Today we practiced using the tools and solving the Smarter Balanced Practice Performance Task.
Please  search "smarter balanced" practice test and try this at home.
Math test on Friday-reviewing all algorithms for fractions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Language Arts:
All components of your writing should be completed by tomorrow. This includes all revising and editing suggested by your classmates. DO NOT PRINT them yet. We'll print them after I revise and edit for you.

Science:  Finish reading Chapter 4, Lesson 2- Finish your chart on sleet, hail, and snow.

Other:
Book Fair is happening NOW! Tomorrow night is family night at the book fair!!! It will be open from 6pm-8pm  Yay:) They will have authors signing their books! How cool is that?  Remember-all proceeds benefit the fifth grader's activities!

Math:  We modeled division of whole numbers by fractions. We completed models for seven problems.

Language Arts: We revised our work adding emotional responses by characters or added emotional language to advertising.  Make sure to make at least two comments on your shoulder partner's writing to help him/her improve specific aspects of their writing.

Science:
Reread Chapter 4, lesson 2- pages 188-199 to review the water cycle and land breeze vs. sea breeze.

Other:
Book Fair going on NOW!!!! Woot woot woot!

Math:
1. Today was a review of how to multiply and divide with decimals. ALL missed quiz questions must be redone. Get a parent signature on both quizzes.

2. Get a parent signature on classwork Math Journal p. 272

3. Many students owe me a note, signed by a parent, explaining to the parent that the student had a chance to do corrections and chose not to do so for the last math test (the green-bordered math test)

Language Arts:
1. We completed three fun worksheets improving our vocabularies for our writing. :)
2. Make sure all parts of writing are typed on google docs

Science:
1. Get a note signed by a parent that you explained: a) How the ocean gets salty? b) What percentage of fresh water do we have available for use?  22% of 1%  22/100 X 1/100

OTHER:
Book fair and coin drive is on NOW. Everyday afterschool in the little theater (the old Specfalo room)

Don't worry about iReady tonight-get your reading and typing done on the above assignments.

We worked on our revisions in class.

Math:
1. We reviewed the procedure for completing the performance task from the math test. Students may turn in these procedures for full credit for this task if they have all components reviewed today.
All corrections are due on Monday 2/23.

2. We completed math journal page 272-273.

3.  Get graded classwork signed by a parent.

Language Arts:
We worked on revising our writing.  We do all work on revision in class ONLY.
Make sure your read for pleasure tonight.

History:
We reviewed chapter 8. Test tomorrow.
Make sure you work on your iReady and reading at home.

Math:
We continued to review multiplying fractions. MJ pages 267-270.
Get parent signatures on your math classwork for each green grade given and on your math test.
ALL TESTS must have a parent signature on them by tomorrow.
However, all corrections aren't due until next Monday.

Language Arts:
We finished our rough drafts for the writing process.
We finished through page 84 for analyzing the theme of poetry.

History:
Test on Friday.
We discussed the decreased grading scale for this test and the need to read all of the chapters.


Other:
Report cards are coming home in early March.

We picked our own writing piece to revise and edit.
We continued the unit on Theme in the Common Core REady book pages 83-83.
Get a parent signature on CC pages 73-76

History: Continue to study chapters 6-8, open book/open notes test on Friday, 2/20


Other:
Don't forget to do your iREady lessons-remember 2 per week for LA and 2 per week for math is the expectation. By this point, since November 2, 2014. There should have been 20 lessons in math and 20 lessons in Reading completed.

Typing skills are important and necessary to complete the Smarter Balanced test.

Chess club is starting up on campus. See the flyer sent home today.

Math: We reviewed comparing fractions and renaming fractions on MJ pages 248, 249, 251

Language Arts: NONE today-due to panoramic pictures, so READ,READ,READ your history books.

History: Continue to read and study chapters 6,7, and 8.  Test on one of those chapters, open book and open notes-next Friday, February 20.


Other:
 Remember to show your parents the Toll Meeting on March 3, get science TESTS signed and history notes signed.
Get your behavior card signed.
Complete your iREADY lessons and TYPE.

REad Chapter 6.  Remember there will be an open book test on either chapter 6 or 7 or 8 on Friday, Februrary 20.

Other:  Jr. Fire Department Test will be on Thursday, March 12! Be studying your booklet nightly.

We are creating a classroom book about our time at Keppel. Creating one page and illustration for that pageis mandatory, but buying the book is optional. Forms will come home in the THIS week's Thursday folder. :)

math:  We reviewed how to solve the layered problem on pages 142-143 which involved finding products of fractions and subtraction.

Get your classwork signed by a parent.

Study for test on multiplying and dividing fractions (including word problems). Test will be next Thursday, February 12.

ELA:
We turned in our Martin Luther King, Jr. writing and we covered the lesson on comparing or contrating settings/events in common core book pages 65-68.

Science:
Reread the excretory system! Can you explain the function of the excretory system in kid language (paraphrasing in your own words.)

Test on Chapter 3 = this Friday. Study all lessons and review key vocabulary concepts.

Other:
Are you jumping rope for your heart? Are you making good food choices to supply your body with the nutrients it needs to keep all systems up and running?

  There is an OPTiONAL class party during lunch on Friday, February 13.  Narek's mom is collecting money and planning the party.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
