Math:
  We did a project in which we calculated the cost of each sculpture created in our classes with Mrs. Zierhut. We used rounding, multiplying, adding, and dividing with decimals to get the job done.

-Make a final presentation copy with all values neatly organized and all calculations shown. I'm turning these into Mrs. Zierhut and Ms. Siegal tomorrow.

-Study test tomorrow on all things decimal.


Language Arts:

We worked on revising.

Sign into your google docs and MAKE all revisions.

Science:
We spent quality time with microscopes and student presentations today.

History: 
  Finish taking notes on Chapter 5, Lesson 2.

Make sure you know who these men are & their significance to French colonization of North America: Cartier, Champlain, Jolliet, Nicollet, Brule, and Marquettte.

Other: Some students still need to turn in their field trip forms!

The fifth grade committee is in need of serious help organizing, volunteering, and procuring supplies for Keppel Rocks. Fifth graders keep all the profits from this event.

Dine out night = this WEDNESDAY, 4PM-10PM ISLANDS RESTAURANT IN GLENDALE

Math: We worked on common core math problems involving large amounts of data. This required creating tables. It is strongly recommended that you review pages 88-89 over the weekend to prepare for a Tuesday test.

Language Arts: We're writing our stories. It is fun!!! Ask your children to show you the google docs stories.
Reading logs are due next Thursday.

Science: We reviewed tests and looked at cool plant videos online. There's nothing like carnivorous plants to inspire students to study botany.

History: We took notes on early North American European explorers and "primogeniture".

Other:
1. Our wreath fundraiser is a great way to raise money for a fabulous play day.

2. Daylight Savings ends this weekend, November 1, 2015 at 2:00 a.m. "Fall Back". 
Remember to turn your clocks back one hour. 

3. As a reminder from the Fire Department changing your clocks is also a great reminder to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.
 
4. Please have safe and happy Halloween. 
Remember: 
1. Only go trick or treating with an adult. 
2. Bring a flashlight thing so old ladies like me can see you when we're driving. 
3. Cross streets only at corners. 
4. NEVER go into a stranger's house for candy. 
5. HAVE YOUR PARENTS CHECK YOUR CANDY BEFORE YOU CONSUME ANY OF IT. 
6. Do NOT bring your candy to school.

Math:
 1. Students had a substitute today while Mrs. Cannon was receiving more iREADY training.

2. The students completed pages 14-15 of the Unit 2-GEMS book and 1 division worksheet.

3.  Mrs. Cannon will collect tomorrow: the p. signature on the most recent test and p.sig. on the dvision worksheet turned in yesterday. 


ELA:
Students worked on typing their stories into a google docs account. Remember you CAN work on these at home.

Science:
We took our test on Chapter 1.

PE:  Don't forget to send water with your children-it's hot out there in PE Land.

Other:
No school Friday!  NO COSTUMES tomorrow!

Dine out at Islands next week & our FABULOUS wreath sales continue.

Red Ribbon week = WEAR red tomorrow.

Thursday folders will be sent home tomorrow. :)

These students need to return their field trip permission slips: 1, 5, 10,  13, 35.

We worked on the partial products/quotients algorithm in math.

Language Arts:
We worked on adding concrete details. Remember to  "show" what is happening, don't tell.

Science: Chapter ONE test tomorrow after lunch.

Today was PE and ART with Mrs. Zierhut.

Other:
Tomorrow is make-up picture day.

Islands Dine Out night is next Wednesday -11/4/15

NO SCHOOL for Students this FRIDAY!

iREADY update-your child must have 20 lessons completed in reading and twenty in math by this coming Sunday.

Math: 

We continued our foray into dividing with decimals: RCC pages 78-81.


ELA: 

1. We worked on identifying the theme of a story: Remember "Theme is the lesson that the reader is intended to learn."  Complete RCC pages 128-133.  Remember to write your answer to number 4 on a separate piece of paper. :)

2. Also, all p. sig.'s on the friendship/celebration worksheet will be collected tomorrow.

3. Reading logs due 11/6/15

History

We took our test today.

Science: 

Science test on chapter one = Wednesday.

Other:

Fifth grade wreath sales have begun. Wahooooooooo!

Math:  

1. Math test signed by a parentPart two of math test is tomorrow. READ and attack the directions CAREFULLY! Turn in all worksheets assigned on Wednesday tomorrow.

Due Monday: Division worksheet distributed on Friday.

English Language Arts:

 Reading logs due tomorrow

Due Monday:Ready Common Core pages 123-126, will be assigned on Friday, 10/23/15 by substitute teacher.

Science: 

 Science Chapter 1 will be completed tomorrow with substitute, study.
Chapter One Test = next Wednesday, 10/28

History: 

Chapter Review will be completed with substitute teacher tomorrow.
Test on Chapter 4 = Monday, 10/26

Other:

Math:

1. We took part one of the major math test. Part two will be Friday...study.
2. Complete 3 math worksheets by FRIDAY (Mrs. Cannon's homeroom class has a field trip tomorrow-no math class)

The three worksheets are:        
A) Busy butterfly worksheet-both sides
B) powers of ten worksheet (just like the quiz we took!)
C) Interpreting remainders (this is really important...wink, wink)

English Language Arts:

We worked on punctuating dialogue today. We loved writing about "whiney" fifth graders.  All parts fo the graphic organizer are due by Friday. We'll finish our organizers next week and starting using them to compose our stories. :)

Science: 

We began Chapter 1, lesson 3 notes.

Science test = next Wednesday

History:

Chapter 4 test = next Monday

Other:

 Mrs. Cannon's homeroom: Field trip tomorrow!!!! Wahooo....PACK A LUNCH for tomorrow, in case we're not back in time for regular lunch at 11:45am.
