1. We learned the procedure for dividing decimals today.
2. Finish RCC page 73 (#7,8 only) & page 75 (#15 & 16 only)
3. MATH TEST tomorrow-all subjects covered this year are fair game except dividing with decimals! Study, but DO NOT stay up late to study; staying up late will make you do worse not better on the test.
ELA:
We finished all the sensory details for all of the graphic organizers today.
Reading logs are due on Friday, as usual.
Art:
We finished our bodies today...they're fabulous.
PE:
Ran the mile today! I'm going to be tired tonight, mom and dad!

We continue using extended problem solving skills to incorporate math procedures with complex word problems.
1. Finish Unit 2, p. 10.
2. Read pages 12-13 in the Unit 2 book
3. Get BOTH quizzes signed by an adult.
4. Major math test on Wednesday, prime factorization, adding/subtracting decimals, multiplication/division of whole numbers. (basically anything we've learned this year is fair game)
ELA:
Continue to complete the sensory details for stories 2 and 3 in your graphic organizers. Remember describe in GREAT detail what the narrator or characters smell, see, feel, hear, taste.
Complete the suffix paper-following directions and coloring the main picture only.
Science:
Science test on chapter 1 = Wed., October 28.
History:
History test on chapter 4 = Monday, October 26.
Other:
A) Student council elections are quickly approaching.
B)Fifth grade wreath sales are coming!
C) Master Class applications are due tomorrow.

We took two quizzes and did an activity based on real life order form. It was interesting...
Worksheet on division due Monday. I need to see the work! You may staple the work to the worksheet and turn it all in together.

We decided upon themes for all of our stories and filled in the events for our stories.
Science:
We learned about how groups of cells form tissues, which in turn form organs, which in turn form organ systems, which all together form organisms. Science always brings up the most fascinating conversations.
Kumbaya:
My class did color themed self-portraits.
Other:
There seemed to be great turn out at the fifth grade fundraiser at Blaze Pizza last night...P-I-Z-Z-A, pizza, pizza, all the way!

Major math test on multiplication, division, and decimals = Next Wednesday, 10-21-15. Study
ELA:
We had a major earthquake drill today during ELA. We completed the conflict resolution for our graphic organizers.
Science:
We made double bubble graphic organizers comparing and contrasting animal and plant cells.
History:
We read about Christopher Columbus, the Columbian Exchange, and small pox today.
Other:

Math:
1. We worked on modeling multiplication decimals. Students need to explain how the models work to an adult at home and get a signature.
2. Complete math boxes worksheet (p. 102) and
3. Number stories/magnitude estimates worksheet (p. 45/52)
English Language Arts:
We continued to work on graphic organizers for writing narratives.
1. Make sure all six graphic organizers for conflict and setting are complete.
Science:
Take SHORT notes- a few words only- on the plant cell organelles. Remember that plant cells have some of the same type of organelles as animal cells, so don't forget to add mitochondria, nucleus, and cell membrane to your plant cell organelle notes.
Other:
Blaze pizza fundraiser tomorrow. Yay, get some yummy pizza and tell them that you are part of the Mark Keppel fundraiser. Go fifth grade, go fifth grade!
HELP!!!! One of our parents lost a LARGE amount of cash and a blank check in our room last night at the 5th grade parent meeting. Please ask your children if they saw that money around the classroom. Thanks so much.

Tonight pick ONE detail from your reading. Share that detail with me in a paragraph which explains WHY the author chose that detail.

We're getting down to the cellular level. Finish reading lesson one and take notes on mitochondria and vacuoles -explain their functions (their jobs in the cell)
