Math:
Today was an introduction to prime and composite numbers, aka sad and happy rainbow numbers...ask your child about it.
We played Shoot the Fruit; I promise it was a productive reinforcement of prime vs. composite numbers.
MANY students got detention for not getting their math quizzes signed by an adult. If your child leaves his/her quiz at school, simply write me a note indicating that you know what grade they got on which quiz with your signature and the date, then I'll know that you know what they got for a grade.
The note can be as simple as:

We reviewed "Does McDonald's Sell CheeseBurgers?" Explain to your very confused parents what that means.
Finish the division worksheet and get the place value quiz signed by a parent.
Language Arts:
We introduced the spelling words, began the vocabulary map for "Line Drive" words-due Wednesday.
You are all turning into vocab map mavens, and I'm not be conceited when I say that you are the best class so far! Don't be mortified if I post your work in the hall! You can just smirk and know that you can reign supreme on the playground, even if I reign in the hallway. Hallways are the designated places to post student work! (wink wink)
Get the "Rope Burn" vocab. map signed by a parent.
History: Mr. Shelton reviewed the important points about the prehistoric peoples paragraph-Rough Draft due Thursday.
Science:
We finished our diagrams about states of matter!
Other:
We're off to a great start. Please be sure to send your children with water-it's going to be an extremely hot week.
CELDT testing begins this week for students who are still designated English Language Learners-these students will be pulled out for this testing.

We took a quiz on place value and began reviewing multiplication/division. HAVE YOUR children practice their multiplication tables if they cannot answer multiplication questions as fast as they can say their name.
Language Arts:
We read "Line Drive" and reviewed rules for discussion.
History:
Mr. Shelton reviewed the pre-historic peoples.
Science:

Beginning on Monday, all students are required to finish two reading and two math lessons per week. (Monday-Sunday at 9pm)

For example, 3.23 = (3 X 1) + (2 X .1) + ( 3 X .01)
We completed two worksheets: 1. Expanded notation using decimals 2. Place & Value

Get a parent signature on graded question # 3 from reading book
History:
Mr. Shelton assinged a rough draft due next Thursday on "First Peoples"
Science:
Read pages 342-343, yes this counts as your reading!!!

We continued our work on saying and writing numbers and place value today. Please make sure that the worksheets on expanded notation and place value are completed.
Language Arts:
We worked on answering questions about stories "OOYB" and with proof from the text. Ask your children what "OOYB" means. :)
Art:
We had art with Mrs. Zierhut (we learned a technique for creating block letters and shading)
PE:
Today was PE with Mr. Sandoval and Mrs. Todd.
Parents remember:
Tomorrow is a minimum day. 12:05pm dismissal.
Back to School Night is tomorrow night, Wednesday, 8-19-15, at 7pm in the cafeteria.
5th grade meeting is at 8pm in the cafeteria.
